The Ballad of Dido
Bad Quarto Productions presents the new musical The Ballad of Dido at Philadelphia PA's Studio 1831 on April 21st and 28th at 8 PM and April 22nd and 29th at 2 PM, and Staunton VA's Darjeeling Cafe on April 26th at 7:30 PM.
Three thousand years ago, before the foundations of Rome were even a dream, a mythical queen built a city that would stand as a shining beacon of civilization in a world ravaged by war, but all we know of Dido and those early days of her city has been lost to history. This April, Bad Quarto explores that lost history in a musical exploration of the mythical queen of Carthage. Drawing upon Vergil, Marlowe, Ovid, and others, Tony Tambasco and Rachel Quagliariello bring to life the story of the mythical queen who paved the way for Western Civilization.
The Ballad of Dido combines American roots music with the classical myth of Dido, the legendary queen of Carthage, to tell the tale of hope, faith, and love during an ongoing global conflict. Inspired by folk, rock, and bluegrass music, this truly epic story comes to life like never before. History has remembered Dido as a strong leader, shrewd politician, original crazy ex-girlfriend, paragon of virtue, and a goddess, but in this new musical, she sings her own song.
