Narrative Elements: Tell It, Show It (Part I); Narrative Elements: Write It, Perform It (Part II)
Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum
St. Petersburg, FL
Share this event:

In part I, participants will use close-reading and practice exercises to explore the basic principles of story -- narrative voice/point of view, characters, conflict, and setting. In part II, participants will craft their own stories and poems using the narrative tools and story basics learned in part I, then apply reading and performance techniques to share their work with an audience in a culminating open mic storytelling event.

About the Instructors:

Sheree L. Greer: A Milwaukee, Wisconsin native, Sheree L. Greer hosts Oral Fixation, the only LGBTQ Open Mic series in Tampa Bay, teaches writing and literature at St. Petersburg College, and founded The Kitchen Table Literary Arts Center to showcase and support the work of ancestor, elder, and contemporary women writers of color. Her debut novel, Let the Lover Be is available from Bold Strokes Books. Learn more about Sheree and her work at www.shereelgreer.com

Tiffiany Anderson: Tiffiany "Slam" Anderson is president of The Poets@USF, a student-focused open mic and poetry organization at the University of South Florida. As a spoken word artist and writer, Slam works in the community to promote literacy and self-empowerment. She writes, "I have struggled. I have cried. I know doubt and insecurity. I've been to the bottom with no idea or plan on how to make it back up, but I have never quit. I have never given up. I am a black woman. A warrior and a queen. I am strength, I am beauty, and I am triumph. I am proud to be a woman of the Kitchen Table. I am proud to be a black woman. I am proud to be me."

*Kitchen Table Literary Arts Center builds awareness, appreciation, and support for women of color writers, poets, and their work. Through its partnerships and public programs, Kitchen Table Literary Arts strives to create opportunities for literary arts-based education to empower and encourage creativity and personal development.
