NCI (North Carolina Interventions) is a competency based and standardized curriculum designed for people who provide services to or interact with clients of mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse services. The curriculum includes core objectives and content for prevention and alternatives for crisis intervention. People who take NCI Part A only (Prevention/Alternatives) will be able to: 1. Identify why people behave the way they do. 2. Understand how to build positive relationships through listening and communication strategies 3. Understand how to help others through problem solving and decision making 4. Assess risk for escalating behavior 5. Understand the importance of early crisis intervention NCI Part B through Core Plus is also available and covers the use of physical and restrictive interventions. Please indicate when registering if you have any physical limitations that would prevent you from fully participating in the Part B curriculum. Dress comfortable and wear tennis shoes if attending Part B. Part A is a prerequisite for Part B.
INTENDED AUDIENCE: CenterPoint Human Services staff and Network Provider staff. The Part A Initial Class is for those who have never taken NCI or whose certificate has expired. The Part A Recertification Class is for those who have a current certificate and need the annual recertification (Must show proof of current certificate that is less than 12 mos. old). Part B is for those whose agencies use approved physical and restrictive interventions. Class size minimum is 5 and maximum is 25.
