Zaman: An Evening of Classic Belly Dance & Live Music by Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble
"Zaman" means nostalgia, or things past, in Arabic. It is a word that frequently appears in the heartbroken or wistful love songs that are so much a part of the Arabic music canon.
During Golden Era of Egyptian dance and film (1940s-1950s) belly dancers were huge movie stars, and each was known for her own unique style. Likewise, the dancers this evening will share with you their hearts.
Professional belly dancers Amani Jabril of Atlanta, Rosa Noreen, Josephina Gasca, Adira, and Vivian Vice of Maine, and Sahina of Western Massachusetts will each bring their special styles to the stage.
Special guests Origins Folkloric Troupe of Boston will open the show with Egyptian folkloric dances.
Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble will be playing music from the Egyptian Golden Era in the form of a takht ensemble--the ultimate in Arabic music.
Tickets are limited, so be sure to reserve yours early!
