Raise the Reds fundraiser dance, featuring "Big Fun"
The rockin' dance band "Big Fun" is featured at a very special Hallowe'en dance fundraiser for Portal Players Dramatic Society / the Capitol Theatre. Help us "Raise the Reds" and replace the main red curtains at the Capitol, the jewel of the Rotary Arts District in uptown Port Alberni and the home of the performing arts in the Alberni Valley.
Join us at the Italian Hall from 9 pm - 1 am. Prizes for best costume, best couple costume, and best group costume. Sponsored by Port Posh Wash, Jowsey's, Jiffy Lube, and the Graphics Factory.
ABOUT THE BAND:
"Big Fun" has been entertaining fans and friends on Vancouver Island for 8 years. The band is based out of Courtenay and has changed members a few times over the years.
John Mundy is an original member of Big "Fun". John's lightening fingers and crazy humour will keep you entertained for many hours. He also has a few tricks up his sleeve with empty bottles and tubes that he makes music from. John is a very well-versed and respected musician in the music community and he has played with many of the greats including Bryan Adams, Aaron Pritchett, Jann Arden, Buck Owens, and Johnny Paycheck.
Bob Johnstone is also an original member of "Big Fun". He and John met in Calgary and became lifelong best friends. Bob and John have played music together for many years. Bob is an exceptionally talented drummer with a fabulous voice. He sings great harmonies and is also full of crazy humour. Bob has been a radio announcer for the Jim Patterson Radio Group for the many years. Bob moved away to Kelowna to pursue a job opportunity in June of 2014, but is returning to the island specifically for this fundraising event.
Andy Lorimer is also an original member of "Big Fun". Andy plays the keyboard and sings both lead and backup vocals. He is a very talented man. He left big fun for a few years to pursue other ventures and returned to the band about three years ago. Andy played keyboard in Simon Kaos, Prism, and the Headpins. Andy Currently owns Lorimer Productions based in Comox, BC.
Colleen Brooks grew up singing right here in Port Alberni. She joined her first band (Country Club) in 1989, singing Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn. She recorded her first album with a band called Night Magic. Colleen focused on country music and light rock in her early years. In 1993 she started playing bass guitar. Colleen later moved to Calgary, and played with many great musicians. She toured for a year with Country Recording Artist Julian Austin as his bassist and back-up vocalist. Colleen returned to her roots in Port Alberni in October of 2008 to be with her family. She met up with "Big Fun" started playing with them in February of 2014. Her voice is powerful and soulful, and she can sing many different styles of music.
DON'T MISS A GREAT HALLOWE'EN PARTY. Costumes are welcomed, but not necessary. There will be prizes for best costumes. Big Fun plays an array of music to please all audiences. The focus is on music that people can party and dance to. Here is a brief capture of their repertoire.
