PUTIN'S KISS, documentary, 85 min., in Russian with English subtitles
"More than just the portrait of a naive young woman. It's a frightening look at Putin's warped version of democracy" - VA Musetto, NY Post "Putin's Kiss offers a fresh glimpse into how Putin's Russia actually works." -John Powers, NPR Putin's Kiss is a rare insight into the core of Russian democracy "Putin-style". 19-year old Masha, who became famous as the girl who publicly kissed Vladimir Putin, is a spokesperson in Nashi, the Russian government's friendly and strongly nationalistic youth organization, working to support the current political system. The movement aims to protect Russia against its 'enemies'.Their agenda, however, is also to keep the political opposition from spreading their views among the Russians.
Masha was seduced by the high energy of the movement at the age of 15 and she has gotten a lot of benefits in return for her loyalty. She starts hanging out with a group of critical journalists. Among them is the well-known blogger, Oleg Kashin, who compares Nashi with 'Hitlerjugend'.
Masha is defending her movement, but she starts recognizing how harassment and dirty provocations against the Russian opposition by 'unknown perpetrators' is going on around her. When Oleg gets seriously beaten up and nearly dies, Masha has to take a stand for or against Nashi.
