Workshop with Danny Braverman
A bespoke workshop for 12 people, performers or storytellers.
Acclaimed theatre director, educator, performer and writer Danny Braverman will lead this workshop on telling the story through performance. Drawing inspiration from Wot? No Fish!! and its touching, funny exploration of everyday life, love and art, Danny will work with a small group, honing your individual talents and showing you techniques of performance.
A practice-based session for people with some experience of performance or storytelling.
Danny Braverman is lecturer in Applied Theatre at Goldsmith's College. He is a freelance performer, writer, director and facilitator, expert in disability arts and participatory or community arts. He was Head of Education at Theatre Royal Stratford and CEO at the Orpheus Centre.
COMMENTS & BACKGROUND hwebber 10 Jul 2014 0:19 The show manages to be hugely artful and utterly simple at the same time. Form fits content beautifully. I was part of a group of six; we all loved it unreservedly.
Short excerpt from The Jewish Chronicle article on Wot? No Fish!! and how the idea for the play emerged... ....Among them were the drawings that Ab did every week on the back of wage packets. There were 3,000 of them stored in shoe boxes under Jeff's bed. One day, Braverman wondered if they might make a show. He sifted through them and slowly the story emerged of an unremarkable marriage documented in a most remarkable way - and of life in the Jewish East End where Ab and Celie used to live. The result, playing at the Battersea Arts Centre next month, has become a mini-theatrical phenomenon which is also bound for America and Australia. There's a book planned, too...
