"Tashlich" comes from the Hebrew word meaning "to cast," as in casting off; referring to the intention to cast away one's sins. This traditional act is usually performed on the first day of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and is customarily performed near a body of water. Through movement and song we construct a vigil to commiserate; we reflect, praise, acknowledge, heal our relationships, and invite a fresh start.
Being a Jewish woman, I appreciate Jewish tradition and symbolism. As I grow in life, I value ever more the richness, spiritual guidance, and continuous hope it provides me. I revere our heritage as it directs me to the importance of appreciating life. Yet this freedom of expression is not limited to my heritage- it is a healing which is accessible to anyone seeking to transmute their burdens and renew for the next cycle.
