You reach, it runs away. Comedy can be an elusive thing, but with a firm understanding of its principles, some practice and maybe the sacrifice of a firstborn child, it can flow easily for any style of writing.
We will cover multiple useful rules-of-thumb for comedy writing, as well as how to turn your mildly amusing themes and ideas into laugh-out-loud jokes and discover creative processes for finding the most potent imagery for a given joke.
Even if you're not a writer, the material comes in handy for diffusing tense situations, charming the various loves of your life or insulting your mortal enemies.
About the Instructor: At the age of ten, Matthew Jackson was partner in a successful school supplies business; at the age of fourteen his life's ambition was to be a lexicographer and by the age of fifteen, while on a school field trip, he discovered he knew --just knew-- that St. Pete was where he would end up. It's been a love affair with business, the breathtakingly-nuanced English language and the Sunshine City ever since. His writing has been reviewed in Creative Loafing (however briefly) and he brings with him a degree in Business Marketing from the University of South Florida, a decade of experience in sales and management, and a vocabulary that even English teachers consult.
