Elijah Wald Opens Season No. 33!
The Homegrown Coffeehouse is thrilled to open Season Number 33 with American folk blues guitarist and music historian Elijah Wald. In addition to numerous coast-to-coast tours of the US, Wald is a prolific writer on music in general, blues in particular, and for certain is the only artist we have ever featured who has won a Grammy for his writing. He has toured the world as a guitarist and singer, spending the late 1970s and most of the '80s wandering around Europe, Asia, Africa and Central America, fronting a blues band in Seville, a swing duo in Antwerp and a rock band at the Grand Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Our opening night will feature blues, Americana, swing, and personal insights into his just released and critically acclaimed book Dylan Goes Electric! Newport, Seeger, Dylan, and the Night that Split the Sixties. Musically, Wald's biggest musical influence and mentor was Dave Van Ronk, and his book Dave Van Ronk: The Mayor of MacDougal Street was the inspiration for the Coen Brothers' smash movie Inside Llewyn Davis. Appearing with Elijah will be clarinetist Sandrine Sheon. All-in-all a way out of the ordinary evening.
