The overarching purpose of this unique arts engagement project is twofold: first, to give a diverse range of people who are interested in theatre the skills to pursue future professional opportunities in this arena; and second, to foster, through theatre arts, attitudes of understanding, acceptance and inclusiveness across cultures, ethnicities and sexualities. Successful candidates served as production assistants on Falling in Time this past season in direction, stage management, and set & costume, lighting, and sound design. They will draw from the experience of working on a professional production to create, under Screaming Weenie's supervision, a new play that deals with the themes explored in Falling in Time: cross-cultural understanding, the challenges of learning English and coming to a new country, and gay-straight relations. The play will have a 3-night run in Vancouver in March 2012.
