A Streetcar Named Desire
Theatre Coup d'Etat presents its second Minneapolis production, Tennessee William's A Streetcar Named Desire directed by James Napoleon Stone at the Lowry Lab Theatre. A Streetcar Named Desire is one of the most remarkable plays of our time. It created an immortal woman in the character of Blanche DuBois, the haggard and fragile southern beauty whose last desperate grasp at happiness is violently destroyed. It shot Marlon Brando to fame in the role of Stanley Kowalski, a sweat-shirted barbarian, the brutishly sensual brother-in-law who precipitated Blanche's tragedy.
Produced across the world, translated into many languages, and recreated as an Oscar-winning film, A Streetcar Named Desire has attracted one of the widest audiences in contemporary literature.
As with all Theatre Coup d'Etat productions, Streetcar will require an ensemble effort, built with a high level of energy and most roles will be physically demanding. As a cast and crew, we will strive to tell the story as truthfully and humanly as possible.
The Lab is located at 350 South Saint Peter Street in downtown Saint Paul across from the Saint Paul Hotel. A Streetcar Named Desire will run March 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 29, 30, 31 and April 1, 5, 6, 7. Show times are at 8pm and Sunday matinees at 2pm. Sunday matinees are pay-what-you-can. Industry nights on Monday the 26th, bring headshot and resume for half price tickets. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online through theatrecouptetat.com.
