Vintage Comet 2012
Wildflower watchers can once again ride vintage trains at the Western Railway Museum. From March 31 - April 29, the Museum will use its historic electric railway equipment on the new "Vintage Comet Wine Train."
The "Vintage Comet" departs each Saturday from March 31 - April 29 at 5pm to take advantage of the beautiful late-afternoon light. Adult passengers 21 and older will learn about and sample four local wines from members of the Suisun Valley Wine Co-Op. Juice is available for younger passengers.
The name "Vintage Comet" was chosen because of its references to wine, to history, and to honor an actual Sacramento Northern train name, "The Comet," which ran from Oakland to Sacramento over the tracks the Museum now owns and operates.
In addition, Museum docents will be on hand to describe the various native wildflowers in bloom and visible from the rail line.
The Western Railway Museum is located on the freshly repaved California State Highway 12 in rural Solano County, midway between Interstate 80 in Fairfield and the Sacramento Delta town of Rio Vista. The Museum is just one hour from San Francisco, Sacramento, Stockton, and Sonoma.
