Lisa Leff: The Archive Thief
Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center
Houston, TX
Share this event:

Was Szajkowski a thief?  In the aftermath of the Holocaust, Jewish historian Zosa Szajkowski gathered tens of thousands of documents from Nazi buildings in Berlin, public archives, and private synagogues in France and moved them, illicitly, to New York.  Associate Professor of History at American University, Lisa Leff reconstructs this story and provides a perceptive portrait of an unusual villain and hero.  "The Archive Thief is more than just a fine work of scholarship; it is also a page-turner."  Aaron Lansky, Director of the Yiddish Book Center
