1929 Mystery Dinner Immersive Experience: Clairvoyance, Theivery and Thomas Wolfe's "Look Homeward, Angel" - Oct 13th, 18th or 22nd
THE IMMERSION This unforgettable, immersive mystery dinner experience takes you back to Asheville, January, 1929 as dinner guests await the arrival of the evening's honoree, native son Thomas Wolfe. Returning for a brief visit to his childhood home, Thomas has been invited to the former Eureka Saloon, now Lex 18, to dine with guests and perform a reading from the manuscript of his new book Look Homeward, Angel. The manuscript is scheduled to be mailed to the publisher this week, so this is a truly private advance reading. The intimate dinner, complimented by a visiting pianist, takes a dark and scandalous turn. Multiple motives, suspicions and chaos ensues. Fortunately, there are special guests who can solve the mystery and return peace to the evening while revealing a shocking future..
The proprietress of the Eureka Saloon has made great plans for her guests' enjoyment including bootlegged wine, beer and whisky, a four-course dinner affair and a hired jazz musician from Washington, DC who has agreed to travel the distance just to hear and see the young novelist he admires.
After Mr. Wolfe's reading of a rather spicy excerpt from his "tell-all" novel, a lovely dining experience accompanied by live music and song appears to unfold seamlessly. Suddenly, however, in the midst of all this enjoyment the evening takes a dark turn. A deceptive plot, prickled with mysterious motives and unwanted suspicions, is revealed in the chaos.
Luckily, visiting guests in attendance can turn the evening's digression and resolve the accusations and defensive posturing. While reluctant to step into the role, they sense they may open a bigger can of worms than anyone has bargained for.
STYLE AND ENGAGEMENT This uniquely designed dinner experience blends historical facts, setting and personages with fictionalized events that are both fun and fascinating. With an integrated cast of 12 characters, guests' interactions and involvement can range from fully engaged mystery sleuths to casual reserved observers. The only instruction is to play your authentic self.
DRESS There is one guest requirement which is to dress for dinner in the style of the 1920s and 1930s. If your closet does not offer the option, we do ask our dinners to dress semi formal; jacket and tie for men and cocktail attire for women. A week prior, guests will receive a mailed invitation from the proprietress of the Eureka Saloon (present-day LEX 18) providing directions and information detailing the evening's event.

LOOK HOMEWARD, ANGEL, published in 1929 A legendary author on par with William Faulkner and Flannery O'Connor, Thomas Wolfe published Look Homeward, Angel, his first novel, in 1929. About a young man's burning desire to leave his small hometown and tumultuous family in search of a better life, the work gave proof of his genius and launched a powerful legacy.
The novel follows the trajectory of Eugene Gant, a brilliant and restless young man whose wanderlust and passion shape his adolescent years in rural North Carolina. Wolfe said that Look Homeward, Angel is "a book made out of my life." His largely autobiographical story about the quest for a greater intellectual life has resonated with and influenced generations of readers, including some of today's most important novelists. Rich with lyrical prose and vivid characterizations, this twentieth-century American classic will capture the hearts and imaginations of every reader.
