~flow yoga as experiential metaphor to bring meditative awareness into the rest of our lives~
On this one day retreat we will spend time in the Autumn forests and along the Pemigewasset River in the White Mountains of Lincoln, New Hampshire and in the sanctuary of the Mountain Club on Loon exploring ways of orienting to yoga and breathwork as practical meditative tools that assist us in gradually cultivating the capacity to stay conscious and feel when impulse, emotion, thoughts, boredom, whatever arises, without dissociating from the feeling or compulsively reacting to our internal reaction to the feeling either. In that space we can practice honestly and mindfully taking in the information being given to us through our life experiences and supporting ourselves to be able to go through whatever comes our way so that we are potentially able to stay more clear and make choices about how to respond to circumstance, gaining perspective to help us navigate with more agility and efficiency as we go forward.
We won't discuss the stories so much as experiment with ways to help support ourselves no matter what the story is, and support each other by being willing to practice this way together.
This class is accessible to students of all levels. Simple postures will be offered for newer students to hold and develop awareness, while more experienced practitioners will be guided into more complex postures to refine their skill and attention once the simpler postures become easy. We will experiment to find our own unique expression of the potential of each pose, the specifics of the posture itself not so important as the ability to stay conscious in experience at will and support ourselves with self-compassion and discipline to go through whatever we go through, and from this place of humble and honest mindfulness, learn to make choices on how to respond rather than react.
Bring clothing for yoga and a mat (although I will have plenty), layers appropriate for the weather outside, maybe a towel and swimwear depending on what we get for weather and footwear suitable for light hiking. In case of inclement weather, we will utilize The Mountain Club as much as necessary and go outside as weather allows. Please bring a packable lunch or give yourself time to pick one up at a local restaurant before the retreat to bring with you so we can be fluid with when and where we eat. The Mountain Club has many good choices as does Half Baked and Fully Brewed, located on your left as you drive out of Lincoln towards Loon on the Kancamangus Highway.
Please arrive well fed, enough to sustain you until lunch time.
