Ivan E. Coyote & S. Bear Bergman: Queer Words and Family Stories
Award-winning, multiply-published, queerly-lauded storytellers Ivan E. Coyote and S. Bear Bergman take the stage for a signature evening of queer words and family stories. Come and enjoy the funny, the dirty, the teary, the tender and the unmistakably bent stylings of these two wordsmiths.
Both Bergman and Coyote will be reading from unpublished new work, telling family stories, and serving up fresh, unrehearsed banter and side-stories spun out of road snacks into gold. Come enjoy the snap and crackle of a live show something that cannot be repeated, paused, or saved; performed only for the warm souls that show up.
Ivan E. Coyote was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. An award-winning author of six collections of short stories, one novel, three CD's, four short films and a renowned performer, Ivan's first love is live storytelling, and over the last thirteen years Ivan has become an audience favorite at music, poetry, spoken word and writer's festivals from Anchorage to Amsterdam.
In addition to literary and teaching accomplishments, Ivan continues to tour extensively throughout North America and Europe, telling stories not only to festival audiences, but to high school students, social justice activists, transsexual autoworkers, adult literacy students, and senior citizens all across the continent. Ivan believes in the transformative power of storytelling, and that collecting and remembering oral history not only preserves a vital part of our families and where we come from, but that a good story can help inspire us to reinvent a better future.
S. Bear Bergman is a storyteller, a theater artist, an instigator, a gender-jammer, and a good example of what happens when you overeducate a contrarian. A frequent lecturer at colleges and universities regarding issues relating to gender, sexuality, and culture, Bear enjoys digging in to complicated ideas and getting dirty doing it. Bear also works extensively helping to create queer and trans cultural competency at universities, corporations, health care providers, and governmental organizations. This work has included training, policy development, policy reviews, and process/barrier audits, as well as cultural awareness consulting for external marketing.Bear is the author of Butch Is a Noun (reissued with a new foreword by Arsenal Pulp Press, 2010) and Lambda Literary Award-finalist of The Nearest Exit May Be Behind You (Arsenal Pulp Press, 2009) as well as the editor of the multiple-award-winning Gender Outlaws: The Next Generation (Seal Press, 2010). Bear is also the creator and performer of three award-winning solo performances and a frequent contributor to anthologies on all manner of topics.
