Songwriting Workshop
Sorry, THE WORKSHOP IS CANCELLED
This workshop will be presented by well known, highly respected song writer, Bob Franke in two afternoon sessions. Bob's two-part songwriting workshops begin with a lecture on resources for songwriters, short interviews with participants, and individual songwriting assignments. They continue with helpful critiques of the resultant first drafts of the assignments and lots of nuts-and-bolts information on how to make them better. It's not easy, but it's fun, and Bob provides a safe environment for risk taking.
Bob Franke is an internationally renowned singer and writer of songs that range from the sublime to the ridiculous. Nominated as an Outstanding Folk Act by the Boston Music Awards, Bob's songs not only engage audiences with singable choruses, but also leave them with something to think about. Bob Franke began as a street performer , singing and playing guitar in Harvard Square over 30 years ago. Now he appears in concert halls and churches, on the radio, and at festivals and song-writing camps all over America, Canada, England, and, this year, Russia. In addition to his own recordings, his songs have been covered by numerous other artists including Peter, Paul & Mary, June Tabor, and John McCutcheon. Tom Paxton explained Bob Franke's ranking as a top folk song writer, "In our terms, it's a hit song when it really enters the tradition; when you hear that it's being passed along from singer to singer, that people who may have no idea who you are have taken it into their lives. They can identify with the feelings in the song, the words and melody fit, and it tastes good to sing it. Bob writes like that, like an ordinary thoughtful man who has turned to song to express himself."
