Big Night
Cinema Arts Centre Digital Cinema Campaign Fundraiser
Join legendary star ISABELLA ROSSELLINI and restauranteur MARTIN BUTERA for a delicious evening of film, food, and lively conversation featuring a screening of the classic movie BIG NIGHT followed by a discussion with star Isabella Rossellini and a tasting of the film's featured dishes.
Few films have captured the magical mixture of life, history, and sheer pleasure that can emerge from the seemingly simple act of eating a meal better than the classic movie Big Night. This wonderfully entertaining blend of hilarious comedy and moving drama follows two Italian brothers, as they work together to plan a very special event to save their restaurant. In the 1950s, brothers Primo (Tony Shalhoub) and Secondo (Stanley Tucci) own an Italian restaurant in New Jersey. Chef Primo creates amazing dishes, but front-of-the-house man Secondo sees that their commitment to authentic Italian cooking is alienating 1950s Americans whose knowledge of Italian cooking doesn't extend beyond spaghetti-and-meatballs. They must choose whether to change their traditional Italian ways and sacrifice their integrity to rescue the failing business. A lifeline comes their way when a fellow restauranteur (Ian Holm) offers to invite famed singer Louis Prima to a very special dinner that could save the brothers' restaurant. The witty and cunning personalities of the two men conflict with their attempt to mold into their new American life, and leave behind the struggles of Italy. As events unfold, Primo and Secondo not only find themselves having to revise their values, but they come to test and strengthen their brotherhood bonds. Written by Stanley Tucci and Joseph Tropiano, and directed by Stanley Tucci and Campbell Scott, this beautiful tale is filled with food, love, and the struggle to succeed.
Hosted by Big Night star, Isabella Rossellini, and CAC Board Member Martin Butera, the film will be immediately followed by a reception in the Sky Room Café for a tasting of the foods depicted in the movie prepared by Butera's Restaurant. Foods served will be paired with wines will be provided by Bottles and Cases.
This event is a fundraiser for the Cinema Arts Centre's Digital Cinema Campaign. We have reached a critical stage in the digital era where the Cinema Arts Centre must purchase digital projection equipment for its three theaters in order to continue operation. By 2013, new films will be released exclusively on digital hard drive. Proceeds from this event will go toward the purchase of digital projection equipment for our three theaters so we may continue to present first-run films.
