Isaac's Eye
SideReal Theater Company presents: "Isaac's Eye" by Lucas Hnath
Isaac Newton once stuck a needle "between [;;;;his];;;; eye and the bone, as near to the backside as [;;;;he];;;; could" in an attempt to understand how the eye sees light. This is true. He really did that. Why exactly? No one really knows. In Isaac's Eye, Playwright Lucas Hnath pits a young Newton against his real-life adversary Robert Hooke in a race to define the new rules of modern science and uses Isaac's early and little understood experiment as a springboard to explore themes of science, ambition, and the nature of truth in an original and often darkly hilarious style.
"No one can know for sure what motivated Newton to become the person he did. But Hnath does a credible job in providing a context for a brilliant but troubled young man who made incredible contributions to scientific knowledge at significant cost to himself." CurtainUp.
"Few Plays are anywhere near as clever. Hnath creates a disorienting, ironic atmosphere, a kind of Rushmore plus calculus." -Time Out New York
