Act Up & Get Down Spring Break Camp
Youth ages 9-14 years will spend the Memphis City Schools Spring Break week, March 12-16 at the FireHouse Community Arts Center acting up through theater games and getting down with dance, drawing, painting, crafts, gardening and exploring family and African American t history. Coordinated by Carl Slappy, FireHouse faculty participating include: LaVita Brooks, a veteran of stage & film since she was a young child will lead the theater classes which will include filmmaking; Jazz/Hip dance instructor Kellye Crawford, African Dance instructor Sah Ankh Sa; Arts-A-F!RE Youth Theater Troupe's Artistic Director, vocalist-actress Naomi Williams Moody and musician Kent Suggs, AAFYTT's Musical Director will lead campers in the development of their musical skills. Additional literary and visual artists will participate as guest presenters. The last day of the camp, participants will attend the Southwest Community College production of the play "Knee Deep Blues", written by Quincy McKay and Jarron Robinson.
The camp hours are 7:45 am 5:15 pm with Extended Care available 6:15 am - 6:00 pm for and additional $25.
