Creativity, Critical Thinking, and the New Common Core Standards
Rolling out nationwide, adoption of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Language Arts and Mathematics is underway in California. The new standards place greater emphasis on students' critical thinking and ability to make real-world, practical connections.
Co-led by The Museum of Contemporary Art and LAUSD Arts Education Branch, this interactive presentation will feature:
- an overview of core competencies emphasized in the CCSS, and the instructional shifts that will need to occur
- exploration of ways arts leadership can facilitate upcoming critical transitions
- lessons learned about creativity development from a co-piloted MOCA/LAUSD program that may help the conversation toward common educational goals.
Featured Speakers: Debra Conejo, Literacy and Language Arts Specialist, LAUSD Luiz Sampaio, Visual Arts Specialist, LAUSD Jeanne Hoel, Senior Education Program Manager, MOCA
Pre-registration required 8:30am: coffee and check-in 9am: program begins
Parking is available for $9 across the street from MOCA at Disney Concert Hall. NOTE:$20 CASH is required up front; $11 refunded with MOCA validation stamp. Apologies for the inconvenience.
