Mikata!

It's dance...it's rhythm...it's Mikata! Feel your pulse quicken as this powerful Salsa band ignites the stage in a joyful celebration of contemporary Latin music. Mikata, which means "all of us" in Ghana's Ewe dialect, fuses the musical elements of Puerto Rico, Cuba, Africa and New York to bring you the elegant sounds of classical Salsa music. Each beat of the conga beckons you to take a step closer and become a part of Mikata. This New Haven-based group has performed nationally, internationally and locally for the past twenty plus years.

In 1998, Reyes founded The Cosmic Jibaros and began developing the sound he's famous for today. This big sound -- a mix of Latin and Caribbean rhythms blended with rock is full of calculated observation, celebration, and is lush with socially-conscious lyrics.

Over the past decade, as Reyes' musical vision matured, the band went through changes, evolutions, and entered maturity itself. In 2003, TheCosmic Jibaros of today was formed.

And in 2007, they released their first album, Yo Soy Del Mundo. Reyes wrote all but one of the songs. Reyes has also released Novela Sin Tiempo (The Timeless Novel), his first solo album. It is a collection of new songs written by Reyes and recorded by an all-acoustic band comprised of cello, violin, upright acoustic bass, hand percussion, and nylon string guitars.
