FANTASIA
Walt Disney's Fantasia (1940) turns 75 this year. The feature film remains unique in the history of motion pictures, and one of the most persistently fascinating intersections between classical music and popular culture.
The film consists of eight animated segments set to pieces of classical music conducted by Leopold Stokowski; seven of which are performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra. Music critic and composer Deems Taylor acts as the film's Master of Ceremonies, who introduces each segment in live action interstitial scenes.
Fantasia 75th Anniversary will also include a special bonus featurette that will proceed the feature which will entail an exclusive introduction and performance by The Philadelphia Orchestra, led by Yannick Nzet-Sguin.
