What happens when the fighting ends and the smoke clears? How do we bring retribution to the "atrocity lords"war criminals who have destroyed countless lives? Hear from the man who helped create the world's foremost institutions of global justice.
The World Affairs Council presents Ambassador David Scheffer, the first United States Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues. In this role he advised Secretary of State Madeleine Albright on US policy responses to war atrocities. Among his many notable accomplishments as Ambassador, he helped establish the International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, the Extraordinary Chambers in Cambodia, and the Special Court for Sierra Leone. He also led the US negotiating team in UN talks establishing the International Criminal Court.
