Second Sunday Concert Series Presents: Wanderlieder: Catherine Laub, soprano and Rita Attrot, piano, October 11
Join us on October 11th at 3PM for a very special concert commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII. Featuring music by Bernd Graf von Schwerin, Viktor Ullmann, and Ilse Weber, soprano Catherine Laub and pianist Rita Attrot perform Wanderlieder: Rediscovered Treasures from WWII. This concert marks the first Canadian performance of von Schwerin's song cyle, Wanderlieder and is one of three concerts being performed at the Roedde House Museum in October and November to celebrate this anniversary. Bernhard, Graf von Schwerin was a German nobleman, musician and avid anti-Nazi who was displaced during the war years and died in 1945, a year after his family's participation in the assassination attempt on Hitler. Viktor Ullmann was a highly regarded Jewish composer who was deported to Theresienstadt and killed in Auschwitz in 1944. Ilse Weber was interned with Ullmann in Theresienstadt and also perished in Auschwitz in 1944 when she voluntarily joined one of the children's transports to the extermination camp.
