D.P.I., the Quitters & the Dirty Panties
D.P.I. the QUITTERS the DIRTY PANTIES $5 DOORS: 9 PM / SHOW: 10 PM
D.P.I.: Ocean Beach locals D.P.I. (DRUNKIN' PUNKIN IDIOTS) are bringin' it back to Shakedown in the name of booze, skateboarding & general reckless abandon. Banned from various local San Diego venues because of the chaos from their shows, Shakedown welcomes them back with open arms & beer bottles.
the QUITTERS: The idea of The Quitters has existed for almost 10 years now. Marq and Tom had known each other since middle school, and met up with Miqah a few years later when he transfered to Silverado High School in Las Vegas, NV. The three were all band geeks, Marq playing oboe and bass, Tom playing trumpet, and Miqah playing percussion and drum kit. After finding the common bond of punk music between the 3, Tom won a guitar at a Spaghetti Dinner Auction, and practicing as an unnamed trio soon followed. Marq, Miqah, and Tom soon went their separate ways to try out college, putting the band on an indefinate hold. But one by one, the trio found out that college was not the option any of them wanted. Playing shows was invading all of their brains. Soon all three had found themselves back in the same city, and eventually moved in together to pursue The Quitters as a serious band. On July 20th, 2004, The Quitters played their first show to a crowd of roughly 20 people (mostly consisting of family and friends) at the now defunct Boston Rock Club. It was a slow start, but The Quitters kept booking shows wherever people would have them, stapling posters up and down Maryland Pkwy, trying to put themselves out there. 5 years later, The Quitters are an established Las Vegas punk act with a following of dedicated friends and fans. Their music is a sleek mixture of roots hardcore punk with rhythms that will make your head spin. The legendary Double Down Saloon is The Quitters home away from home and they can be seen there almost monthly, on top of playing shows throughout the rest of the Las Vegas Valley constantly, and getting out of town every once and awhile to treat other states with authentic Las Vegas Punk Rock. And if you don't know, then now you know.
the DIRTY PANTIES: The Dirty Panties officially formed in 2001. Like most great ideas, the concept of The Dirty Panties was born at a New York City bar, in a drunken stupor, and had a history even before it had instruments. After moving to Vegas, creating a solid local following and undergoing a few personnel changes, The Dirty Panties solidified their line-up with founding member, Barbara Lenox, on guitar; lead singer, Melanie Ash; Michelle "Lil' Moe" Meyer on bass; and Kayley "Animal" Malcolm on drums. Through extensive touring throughout the Southwest, the Dirty Panties have earned the reputation as a "must see act" and become iconic in Las Vegas and beyond. Influenced by the DIY past of NYC punk and the raw style of the garage rock renaissance, The Dirty Panties have created their own unique sound. They write and perform powerful, infectious songs that reflect the band's personality. From getting drunk, feminism and rejection, to their take on what it means to be a girl in the punk scene in the anthem "Pretty In Pink." "The Panties" as their fans call them, are a unique, hard working punk rock band that know their way around a dive bar, a catchy song and a concert stage. To see what it's "all about" you need to see them live, but you take these girls lightly at your own risk.
