Music of Remembrance presents Out of Darkness - San Francisco Premiere
Join us in San Francisco for the premiere of composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer's compelling new opera Out of Darkness. The performance space of the Caroline H. Hume Concert Hall at the San Francisco Conservatory provides the opportunity for a fully-realized theatrical staging of the opera.

Don't miss the Closing Night Cast Party!

A festive Closing Night Cast Party will take place directly following the May 26 performance at the San Francisco Conservatory's Osher Salon. Tickets are $100 per person, and are sold separately through Music of Remembrance's website. A portion of your ticket represents a tax deductible contribution to MOR.

Based on true stories of two Auschwitz survivors haunted by the ghosts of their past, Out of Darkness offers compelling musical witness to survival in the face of unimaginable adversity.

Out of Darkness relates the amazing true story of Krystyna Zywulska (Caitlin Lynch), a young prisoner in Auschwitz whose daring poems became anthems of resistance. Soprano Caitlin Lynch, who created the unforgettable role of Krystyna Zywulska in MOR's premiere of Heggie's Another Sunrise, is joined by world-class singers Catherine Cook and Ava Pine, both of whom recently moved MOR audiences in the world premiere of After Life. Out of Darkness also explores the little-known persecution of homosexuals during the Holocaust, as seen through the eyes of Gad Beck (Robert Orth) and Manfed Lewin (Michael Mayes), two idealistic young lovers in Berlin in the 1930s. For a Look or a Touch is an intensely intimate story of memory and loss.

"Mr. Heggie may well be the richest, most accessible, most captivating opera composer since Benjamin Britten...He reduces major universal issues to credible personal stories, to which a listener can connect."
