Cara Jean Wahlers
Cara Jean Wahlers released her debut album, Goodnight Charlotte in 2010. Since then, it's garnered national press and has received mentions on numerous local Top Ten lists, including Best Local Album (Roots/Acoustic) 2010, included charting on the Village Voice's (NYC) Pazz and Jop 2010 listing. Nuvo's Rob Nichols' says, "Wahlers works inside a pleasing Joni Mitchell/Ricki Lee Jones/Emmylou Harris template - more West coast than rural - though a hint of Indiana in her voice helps anchor a sound more organic than shiny." She is currently working on a follow-up album and writing a play. For more info, carajeanwahlers.com
Heartfelt lyrics and wit are at the core of many singer-songwriters, but the ability to translate feelings to others is where Joel Henderson sets himself apart. With true-to-self lyrics and timeless melodies, Henderson combines folk, country, blues, gospel, and classic pop with equal reverence. Henderson's new album Locked Doors & Pretty Fences is a gorgeously melodic and thoughtful endeavor. Produced by Paul Mahern, Henderson captures shades of heartland heroes like John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen, and James McMurtry; but Henderson's tunes are also right at home on a playlist of contemporaries like Ron Sexsmith, Amos Lee, and Ryan Adams. Whether performing solo or with his band, Henderson promises an intimate experience of storytelling, fine musicianship and beautiful songs. For more info, joelhenderson.com
Together, Cara Jean Wahlers and Joel Henderson weave Gillian Welch/David Rawlings like two part harmonies, with Henderson's guitar and Wahlers' upright bass.
