YPIN: Crowdsourcing Decoded: Understanding how Crowd Power Impacts Business
Do you often ever wonder what enables the sheer breadth of topics on websites such as Wikipedia and YouTube? Are you curious about how the open-source community in software is just as efficient as the big software giants? Have you heard about how small crowd funds from people all over the world are making a big difference to lives in developing nations?
Crowdsourcing is a recent business trend that leverages the collective power and wisdom of the 2 billion people on Earth that have access to an internet connection. Join YPIN and Seattle University at a panel discussion to know more about the global impact of crowdsourcing and crowdfunding from the foremost authorities in the Seattle area.
Our speakers:
Ms. Nadia Mahmud is the co-founder and CEO of Jolkona.org, an organization that effectively leverages technology to help people make affordable donations and track the impact they created. Whether it involves sponsoring a safe pregnancy in Calcutta or helping Burmese land mine victims get prosthetic limbs, 100% of the user donation is used towards the cause. Jolkona, which means a drop of water in Bengali, is based on the philosophy that every drop counts and each low-cost crowd fund contributes to making a lasting impact.
Mr. Wil Merritt is the CEO of Zooppa.com, a company that brings together leading brands and user-generated advertising in a way that creates a vibrant synergy of demand and creative talent. Zooppa creates a partnership between its community members and companies looking for brand advertisements . Members are then invited to submit their advertisements and the winnings entries are selected either by votes or by clients. Zooppa guarantees a pricing range which secures the interests of both, its members and its clients. Over a span of a few years, the Zooppa community has revolutionized how brand advertising is created and perceived.
Mr. Rajesh Patel is a Senior Program Manager at Microsoft with Bing.com and has been actively engaged in understanding crowdsourcing trends and their impact on business. Mr. Patel recently represented Microsoft at CrowdConf 2011, a global crowdsourcing conference with 600+ attendees from 20+ countries. His insights will shed light on the evolution of this industry and the exciting challenges that remain.
