Last Friday's 'Project: Open Box'
Little Boxes Theater & Project Open Box... Join us for an "Open Box" fundraiser event full of live performances and local artists.
This month we are pleased to be featuring talented local dance artists and choreographers performing the debut of a brand new piece named: 'Inkspilt', a duet by Angela Dice Nguyen performed with Stephen DiBiase.
*ANGELA DICE NGUYEN, raised in Somerset, PA, earned a BFA in Dance from Point Park University under the direction of Susan S. Stowe. Angela performed as a founding dancer with the former August Wilson Center Dance Ensemble in Pittsburgh, PA, before receiving the opportunity to enjoy three incredible seasons with DanceWorks Chicago, led by Artistic Director Julie Nakagawa. While in Chicago Angela worked closely in collaboration with Ahmad Simmons and served as a choreographer and dancer for Dance in the Parks, a project company aiming to bring free professional dance to the city's neighborhood park districts. She also created works for Dance Chance, a forum for new dancemakers, which led to commissions by Piel Morena Contemporary Dance, Whitney S. Young Magnet High School, and the pleasure of re-staging work for Joshua Manculich at Chicago High School for the Arts. Angela relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2014 to pursue new dance adventures, which have since included San Francisco Opera, Robert Moses' KIN Dance Company, Project.b., Harper Addison, Kinetech Arts, and Copious Dance Theater. Her other performance credits include Summit Entertainment's Sorority Row, regional productions of 42nd Street and The Pajama Game at Mountain Playhouse, Dayton Arts Project, and an appearance in The New York Times bestseller Dancers Among Us, by photographer Jordan Matter. Angela will premiere her piece inkspilt(San Francisco choreographic debut) as a guest artist appearance with Stephen DiBiase for The DanceWright Project at Dance Mission Theater in October 2015.
-This year Little Boxes Theater dived feet first into the realm of Fiscal Sponsorship. That means, 100% Tax deductible status will allow for donations to fund, what we are calling, Project: Open Box. We will curate in-depth examinations of craft, offer material budget, and help support vision's that culminate in intimate showings. To date, dozens of performances have filled Little Boxes. Contemporary dance, live music, performance art, improv theater, sketch comedy, puppet salons, aerial artists, classical Kinbaku & Shibari demonstrations, and of course our own monthly Open Box', Free Art & Performance Mixer. We have hosted hundreds of Photographers & Film-Makers for fine art, dance, and indie shoots. Filling cameras with as much imagery off the beaten path that can fit inside a lens, dozens of workshops, collaborations and colorful events all in our first year. At the end of the day, we are only a small studio theater (just the two of us) and we are very grateful to all the supporters from vibrant communities of artists, dancers, musicians, photographers, film-makers, theater companies, kinksters, queers and left leaners that still populate the beautiful Bay Area and are very, very excited for what else this year has to offer! Thank you so Much! We look forward to celebrating with you. With Sincere Love & Gratitude, Aaron & Kitty *Founders of Little Boxes Theater 1661 Tennessee St. Suite #2s, San Francisco, CA 94107
