Date: October 13th Times: Doors open at 7 pm, show starts at 8 pm
The event, which will be held Tues. Oct. 13, at the Powerhouse Community Center in Oxford, is called Literary Death Match.
The cocktail reception begins at 7 pm, and the show will be at 8 pm. The event is the brainchild of Adrian Zuniga, who has developed the show and runs it all over the world, a brilliant concept in that it's fun and kind of a cross between a reading and a stand-up/game show/slam/happening/American Idol for writers.
There are three judges, one "literary" (Mary Miller), one "performance" (musician Damein Wash) and one "intangibles" (Jim Dees). The four readers will be three MFA faculty members (Derrick Harriell, incoming new fiction/screenwriter Matt Bondurant, and Beth Ann Fennelly) and the University of Mississippi Grisham Writer-in-Residence this year, Kiese Laymon.
Proceeds support the Barry Hannah scholarship fund! This is a great way to share the talents of our MFA faculty, celebrate Oxford as a supportive literary community, and have fun.
