THE WINES OF SPAIN SEMINARS FROM RIBERA DEL DUERO TO GALICIA
Instructor: Helio San Miguel Tired of drinking the same cabernet and chardonnay? Want to impress your date or your friends? Like to be ahead of the wine curve? Or you would just like to expand your wine knowledge? 12 different wines are tasted in each individual seminar.
This seminar focuses on Ribera del Duero, home of the legendary Vega Sicilia, pioneering Pesquera, and cult star Pingus. From the time this region was granted appellation status in 1982, its powerful and age-worthy reds have been escalating in quality, with its top wines rivaling the world's best. Ribera del Duero's success helped awaken neighboring areas like the almost forgotten Toro that was soon transformed by a rush of bullish winemakers. We will also focus on the promising reds of Bierzo and Ribeira Sacra that, spurred by the rediscovery of the old Mencía vines, are experiencing a fast metamorphosis. Finally we will review the delicious and refreshing white wines of Galicia, led by the albariños from Rías Baixas and godellos from Valdeorras.
