The Illinois Raptor Center's annual Owl Prowl will be on Saturday, October 10, 2015, from 6:30 p.m. 9 p.m. at the IRC located at 5695 W. Hill Road in Decatur. The evening starts at the IRC education pavilion where the audience will meet several species of Illinois owls. Then the group will hike through different habitats to meet more owls and then to the Sangamon River to call in the wild resident owls. The presentation concludes at the IRC nature center with a question and answer session.
IRC resident owls featured during the evening will include a Snowy Owl, Great Horned Owl, Barred Owl, Barn Owl, a Short-eared Owl and both the grey and red morph Eastern Screech Owls.
Participants are asked to wear weather appropriate clothing - the event will only be canceled and rescheduled if the weather bureau issues a storm warning for that evening. And please remember to bring a flashlight!
Doors open at 6:15 PM. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for students, children 6 and under are free. (Not suggested for babies, toddlers or little ones that cannot walk yet.) Seating is limited!
The trail to the Sangamon is about 1/4 mile one way. The pavilion and nature center are handicapped accessible. The trail is not handicapped accessible. We have 3 seats available in our Club Car for persons who are not able to hike. Reservations for those seats are first come first serve. Please make a note on your reservation to reserve a seat on the Club Car.
This is an awesome event! Fees from this event fund the IRC Wildlife Hospital and its wildlife patients.
Tickets: "Will-Call" means the IRC will receive your name on the list of paid attendees - physical ticket is not necessary. But if you prefer to print your ticket or send a copy to your smart phone you may do so.
