Neo/Classical I: CHAI Collaborative Ensemble Presents Music of Martinu, Mozart and Prokofiev
CHAI Collaborative Ensemble launches its Inaugural Season with music from the Classical and Neoclassical periods performed side by side, with works by Martinu, Mozart and Prokofiev. In this program, Wolfgang AmadeusMozart personifies the Classical style, and featured are two of his elegant arias with obbligato instrument ("L'amerò, saròcostante" from Il re pastore; "Parto, ma tu ben mio" from La Clemenza di Tito) and his witty Sonata for Bassoon and Cello.Sergei Prokofiev and Bohuslav Martinubothwrote worksas tribute to older forms, hence the reason why they are often considered Neoclassical composers.Prokofiev'sSonata for Two Violins is structured in the Baroque "sonata da chiesa" form with its four movements in slow-fast-slow fast form, and Martinu's 4 Madrigaux and Madrigal Sonata are considered an homage to the madrigal, a primarily unaccompanied part-song of several voices written with elaborate counterpoint and often in a free style. Please join us for an evening of music that is elegant, ebullient and timeless!
