European Passive House, Part II:
On the path to Zero Net Energy, the robust building envelope standards, offered by European Passive House, are increasingly coming to the fore. Central to this discussion is cost-effective, high R-Value, non-thermal bridging technologies that would be attractive to the wider production home market. Is there, for example, a labor saving green alternative to the 8" - SIP/ rigid foam/ R28 wall? Looking out a decade with a climate that could easily be a lot less temperate, what is the short list of ultra light mechanical systems offering dynamic performance for backup heating and cooling? Bring your wall and mechanical system details to ADPSR's Part II discussion on ultra low energy homes.
Moderator: Prudence Ferreira, Principal of Integral Impact, Inc., is an energy and building science consultant specializing in the Passive House energy standard. As a licensed trainer for the Passive House Institute US, Ms. Ferreira teaches the North American Certified Passive House Consultant (NACPHC) training and advanced Passive House technical workshops around the US and helped author the North American Certified Passive House Consultant Exam.
Speakers: Graham was one of the first Passive House Consultants certified in the US with over twenty years working in the construction industry. He has a degree in physics with additional studies in engineering and architecture. He is a founding board member of the Passive House Alliance, US (PHAUS), and Passive House California (PHCA).
Dan Johnson, LEED AP, studies building systems and how to implement them to improve comfort, save energy, and increase our connection to nature. He holds degrees in Anthropology, Conservation Biology, and a Master of Architecture from UW in Seattle. He is a certified Passive House Consultant, and a Project Manager at Arkin Tilt Architects in Berkeley.
Josh Moore is a design/ builder who participated in Project Green Home, a low impact home just recently completed for the Thesen family in Palo Alto, California, in partnership with Arkin Tilt Architects, and graduate students from Stanford and Berkeley. He is also the designer of the Larkspur Passive House Retrofit for Mary James, formerly editor of Home Energy magazine.
