Comedy Returns to El Rio! (Mon, April 9)
Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Presents...
Comedy Returns to El Rio!

Comedian/comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig, began her stand up comedy career 23 years ago at El Rio's then weekly comedy night in San Francisco's Mission District. In commemoration of her 20th year in comedy, in 2009 she launched a monthly comedy show, Comedy Returns to El Rio! the second Monday of the month at the club that first put her onstage. Geduldig strives to produce multicultural, inclusive comedy shows with the variety of shows she produces each year (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy, Funny Girlz).

After a 3 month hiatus, comedy literally returns to El Rio in April and kicks off its 2012 shows for year #4. The April 9th comedy night features a stellar all-women line up celebrating the diverse funny bone of Bay Area female comedians: Carla Clayy, Dhaya Lakshminarayanan, Yayne Abeba, Casey Grim, and Lisa Geduldig.

DHAYA LAKSHMINARAYANAN is a former venture capitalist-turned-comedian who had a traditional Indian upbringing in the Deep South. She is the TV host of "High School Quiz Show" which premiered on PBS's WGBH last year. In past incarnations, Dhaya was Ms. August '06 Saffron Rare Threads, taught "Charm School" at MIT where she graduated (twice), and attended two Democratic National Conventions as a journalist before starting in the "funny" business of comedy. She is one of the only professional Indian stand up comedians in the world. Dhaya has MC'ed private events, galas, shows, and auctions including the America India Foundation Gala and the Nirvana Woman's Fashion Show; she worked as an on-camera host with VidSF, plays a doctor (no, really) on an Amgen TV commercial, was a finalist at the Rooster T. Feathers Comedy Competition, and performs all over the country. www.dhayacomedy.com

YAYNE ABEBA is a native San Franciscan of Ethiopian descent. She began studying acting at the Jean Shelton Actor's Lab in 1995 and was bitten by the comedy bug four years later at The Luggage Store. She is one of San Francisco's up and coming comedians. Her style is fresh, innovative, cutting edge and just damn funny. She won The 2002 Russian River Comedy Competition and competed in several San Francisco International Comedy Competitions as well as the Seattle Comedy Competition.

CARLA CLAYY is a native San Franciscan who has spent the last several years making people laugh all over the country. She won the Marshall's Women in Comedy Competition in 2001 and was awarded a guest spot at its Marin County show, sharing the stage with Paula Poundstone, Joy Behar, and Rene Hicks. Carla is a regular at The Punchline, Cobb's, and comedy clubs in such hotspots as Modesto and Chico and has shared the stage with Robin Williams. She is one of the funniest comics in the Bay Area.

Loud and unleashed, CASEY GRIM voices her observations with a sharp wit and no regrets. Her unique style and vivacious energy leave audiences gasping for breath in every venue she performs in. Although she has only been performing for a year, she is already a regular in venues all over the Bay Area. Nerdy, awkward, and above all hilarious, Casey has been seen performing at the legendary Purple Onion, San Jose Improv, San Francisco Punchline, and NYC's Gotham Comedy Club.

LISA GEDULDIG is the creator, producer, & MC of a variety of annual comedy shows: Kung Pao Kosher Comedy; The George Bush Going Away Party; Funny Girlz; A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar; The Color of Funny; Cafe con Comedy; Charo...

Must be over 21 as it's a bar.  Tickets on sale on a sliding scale basis: $7 to $20.
