Come perform, watch or judge.
Poets wishing to compete should arrive at 8:30 to put their names in the hat. All poets who put their name in the hat pay half price. At 9:00 poets names will be picked out of the hat.

The Pigeon* is excited to announce this month's feature and workshop** leader:
JANAE JOHNSON
is a spoken word poet, teaching artist, educator, organizer, awkward storyteller and professional lipsyncher originally from Sacramento, California. She is a 2015 National Poetry Slam Champion as well as the 2015 Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion. Janae serves as the co-founder & co-slammaster at The House Slam @ The Haley House Bakery Cafe poetry venue in Boston, MA. She is also the coach and advisor for the Simmons College Speaks Slam Team.
Janae will not apologize for her poetry being centered around black queerness and/or black masculinity. She is committed to creating safer artistic spaces and has little tolerance for people trying to kill her vibe. When she is not poem-ing, Janae is probably making a pineapple based smoothie, eating a breakfast burrito and/or listening to a Stevie Wonder song. She also appreciates black musicals. A lot.
*The Pigeon is an audacious bird that is everywhere. ** The Pigeon Presents: The Nest. A Poetry Workshop. Starts at 7:00 sharp and is free with admission into the slam.
