chatterbird presents O Bury Me Not
chatterbird presents an evening of intriguing classical music infused with bluegrass and classic country twang.
We'll perform two world premiere commissions written specifically for chatterbird by our Composer in Residence Bryan Clark as well as Grammy-nominated mandolinist Matt Flinner.
Other repertoire for the program includes:
"Liftoff," by Scott Lee, for flute, clarinet, trumpet, violin (fiddle), viola, cello - a WINNER in our competitive Call for Scores competition.
"Awake, Awake," by David Kirkland Garner, for soprano, alto flute, banjo, pedal steel guitar, electric guitar, and cello. Based on Dylan Chandler's rendition of "Awake, Awake," a folk ballad, this piece was a WINNER in our competitive Call for Scores competition.
"O Bury Me Not," by Ian Dicke, for bass trombone, chamber ensemble, and live electronics; based on a 1939 field recording of the famous folk song.
"Bid Call," by Libby Larsen, for saxophone and cello. Rooted in American language traditions, "Bid Call" celebrates the varied history of auctioneer patter.
"Life is Blank," by Jason Treuting, for four musicians and the daily news. Using snippets from newspaper articles to form the rhythmic and melodic patterns, you'll hear a playful piece with some instrumental surprises.
Featuring special guest performers Charles Butler and Matt Flinner.
This program is sponsored in part by the Metro Nashville Arts Commission and the Danielle Rose Paikin Foundation.
Tickets are $20 whether you buy 'em now or at the door, but we expect this will sell out! Buy early!
