Focus on Farming XII - Focus on Forestry
Focus on Farming is the only one-day gatherings for all types of farming in one location; whether organic or conventional, livestock or row crops, large or small. Providing quality education to sustain current farmers and attracting new farmers to our region is a critical component in securing the next generation's local food supply.
This year we've added "Focus on Forestry"! Focus on Forestry is for both large and small forest landowners from all over Washington State. The first half of the daylong conference will be two workshop session one on forest health and the second on economic opportunities for landowners, such as valued-added timber products and recreational uses for forestland.
Following the keynote address will be a facilitated-needs assessment; the results of which will be formulated into a document that will guide the work of various entities into the future.
Recognizing that agriculture is constantly changing, many established farmers come to hear about recent research and learn new techniques. Our hope is creating an event of equal importance to the forest industry. This year's keynote addresses will be valuable for both industries as we focus on upcoming weather patterns for Western Washington to allow us to plan for resilience and success for both farming and forest lands. We will also hear from Ben Hewitt; author of the book, "The Town That Food Saved". Ben will talk about the importance of buying locally raised products and how it can change a community.
