Clowning Workshop: Sue Proctor
Wednesday, September 9 The Bay Centre 5:30 pm $20
Clowning Workshop (2.5 hr)
Sue Proctor will share her extensive knowledge of Clowning as a tool for social transformation. Sue recently received an M.A. centered on clowning, theatre and community at Concordia University in Montreal and has worked and trained with clown companies from around the world. The workshop will focus on discovering, exploring and developing a personal clown through mime, improvisation and playful interaction. The workshop is an introduction to her approach to clowning and is open to the public at all levels of experience.
The clown's role is multi-faceted and can be a catalyst in many kinds of social interventions.
Sue Proctor M.A. has performed as a mime, clown and storyteller for over thirty years. She has taught drama and made puppets with all ages and abilities, written and directed community productions and developed many original pieces using puppets and clown. Sue has performed at festivals and in cabarets across Canada. Sue currently teaches with Manitoba Theatre for Young People, Association for Community Living Winnipeg and the Manitoba Artist in the Schools Program.
Sue makes puppets with students in the schools and often includes puppets in her clowning performances by animating objects, having one in her pocket or by roving with a stringed marionette. Art is about animating the inanimate. Puppets can be the symbols of ourselves, like clowns, a step bigger than being human.
