Lucy Kaplansky
Fusing alt-country, roots rock and folk, Lucy Kaplansky presents her songs with warmth, power and a gorgeous, evocative voice. Blend all that musical talent with funny stories, cogent remarks, and self-effacing wit and you have a deeply satisfying night of entertainment. Lucy has released five solo albums on Red House, two of which have received the top award from the Association For Independent Music in the pop category. Her most recent release features sweet, clever songs by her late father, University of Chicago math professor Irving Kaplansky, that have long been audience favorites at her live shows. Billed as an "Americana Sensation," this group of young classically trained musicians is making an immense impact. With a banjo and fiddle, they're a little bit bluegrass, a little bit folk, a little bit classical and whole lot of original. "If Pentangle were hillbillies that rocked, you might get some idea of what's going on here."
