Event
Kingdom of the Icebear
By Martin Malcolm Directed by Anna Girvan
A November night in a sleepy Somerset town and in a shed a monster stirs. A switch is flicked, a generator thuds and suddenly the freezing dark is ablaze. Welcome to Carnival Night. The night when small towns get to have it large, when tinsel leviathans lumber down the narrow streets and when wanderers return.
On this, the shiniest night of the year, at the heart of one family something dark is lurking.
Martin lives in Taunton and his plays include Grave Expectations (Endpaper Theatre), Icarus (Southwark Playhouse), Diggers (Theatre 503), Fake Fur Coat (Tristan Bates), Ink (Simulacra Studios), Drifters (Bike Shed Theatre, Exeter) and NightFlyer (Burdall's Yard).
"Brimming with a strange, gritty tenderness that draws you right in" Everything Theatre on Ink by Martin Malcolm
This production is part of the Theatre West's season of plays all kick-started by the notion of Moving On and will be preceded by Lazarus a ten minute play by Marietta Kirkbride.
