Natya Abhivachan of "Smriti Chitre" by Mrs Suhas Joshi
Rangamancha is excited to announce a Marathi play-reading of "Smriti Chitre" by Mrs.Suhas Joshi.
Mrs. Suhas Joshi, a veteran of film and theater is a National School of Drama graduate. She has acted in over 30 plays- Barrister, Anandi-Gopal, Kanyadaan, Agnipankha, Sakkhe Shejari and Katha to name a few. She was fascinated by Laxmibai Tilak's autobiography, a timeless classic of Marathi literature which describes Laxmibai's life with simplicity, poignancy and humor. And that is how "Smriti Chitre", her one woman act under the direction of Pratima Kulkarni was born.
This play transports the audiences back to a time between 1868 to 1936 and portrays the difficult journey of Laxmibai , from being a staunch and orthodox Brahmin lady to her eventual conversion to Christianity. She feels that the fairly long autobiography has beautiful content which needs to be made more accessible in today's fast paced world, where very few people have the time to read! In her words, "this play reading is her attempt to acquaint us all with an interesting story and a beautiful piece of literature".
