FRIDAY DECEMBER 4 CAR SEAT HEADREST with co-headliner NE-HI $10 advance / $12 at the door 8:30 doors / 9:00 show http://carseatheadrest.bandcamp.com https://ne-hi.bandcamp.com
Born from the beauty of Bandcamp, 22 year old sensation Will Toledo, a.k.a. Car Seat Headrest co-headlines the Lizard tonight along with the nostalgic rock of DIY Chicago-based band Ne-Hi.
CAR SEAT HEADREST Will Toledano; He's 22 years old, hails from Virginia (now in Seattle) has recorded 11 albums which he's released on Bandcamp over the last 4 years and has produced, written, recorded and played every song on there. Without any sort of industry push (no label, PR, agent, manager), he has built this passionate fanbase, having sold over 25,000 downloads on Bandcamp all on his own. Feels pretty rare these days to stumble upon a fully-realized, borderline genius songwriter that is completely unknown in the industry. His lyrics are beyond his years hilarious and heartbreaking, sexy and asexual, references both to religion and to pop culture (The Cars, the book of Job, REM, Velasquez paintings, Raymond Carver, James Joyce, binge-watching shitty tv, etc). His song structures are eye popping, ranging from lo-fi pop to all-out prog/experimental breakdowns. Very ambitious, oddly catchy, and shockingly confessional.
NE-HI Born out of the backyards and basements of Chicago's DIY music scene, NE-HI's nostalgic-rock brings you back to a time that may have never existed. It may be the past. It may be the future. But, it is certainly a place where you feel younger, better looking, and you dance until you are soaked in sweat. A place where you know the best bands before your older brother and all the cool kids at school. The quartet's guitar-driven songwriting and distinct harmonies produce a sound that is both raw and relaxed, rough and humble. Formed to score a friend's film in the summer of 2013, the foursomemade up of Alex Otake, James Weir, Jason Balla and Mikey Wellsrecognized the electricity between its four members and chose to continue making music. Since then, the foursome has toured the Midwest and East Coast, building a reputation as a promising young American band.
