The Toughcats with The Milkman's Union and Nat Baldwin
The Toughcats blend old-time bluegrass, swooning indie rock and classic pop twitches into one mean live show. With Jake Greenlaw providing the feverish beats, Joe Nelson on guitar and Colin Gulley on banjo, the charming trio from midcoast Maine make for a best of both worlds scenario: timeless music that is at once unquestionably danceable and haltingly listenable. They'll be joined by the deft and idiosyncratically melodic Portlanders The Milkman's Union, who've steadily been building a name for themselves across New England with a cache of hyper-literate, eclectic grooves. And, as if that wasn't enough, double-bassist Nat Baldwin, member of Dirty Projectors and disciple of free jazz legend Anthony Braxton, kicks the night off with his intimate, richly textured, avant-pop explorations.
