Real Ladies for REEL Grrls Dinner
AFA is taking over the award winning Phoenecia Bistro in West Seattle, Wednesday February 22nd, at 7:00pm for an evening of incredibly delicious food, wine & incredible company.
Throughout history women have banded together for support, for entertainment, for too many reasons to name really. This night promises to be nothing less than a truly special and inspiring night spent with women who are working in the arts and women who love supporting the arts. All proceeds of this dinner will benefit a fantastic local arts program called REEL GRRLS.
The Reel Grrl Mission
Reel Grrls empowers young women from diverse communities to realize their power, talent and influence through media production. Our mission is to cultivate voice and leadership in girls at a vulnerable age in their development. What distinguishes our program is the high-level of support that our female mentors offer and the high level of commitment that we ask for in return. Our participants don't just drop into a computer lab after school they develop lasting relationships with women filmmakers and learn skills that propel them to leadership roles in their community, college scholarships, and careers in the media industry. 93% of our participants state that they feel more confident being a leader after participating in our program.
What Reel Grrls Does
We offer a variety of hands-on workshops for teenage girls in specific skills including animation, cinematography, script writing and more.
In addition to supporting Reel Grrls, we will also be collecting clothing, shoes and accessory donations for Dress for Success. Dress for success is a great organization that seeks to support women reentering the workforce with dignity by providing them professional clothing, shoes and accessories for interviews. All donations should be gently used and suitable for a job interview. All of the women who benefit from this program are survivors of one kind or another and refuse to be victims in this world. Help us support their courage and strength! We will have gift baskets of wine to raffle off and Anna is bound to have some more fun/dorky things up her sleeve designed to get the max benefit out of our wine buzz.
The ladies at AFA are sincerely excited about this night of celebrating Women and giving a little back to some programs doing truly excellent things in our community for women of all ages.
