Lisa Geduldig and El Rio Present... Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Comedy Returns to El Rio is a popular monthly comedy show (every 3rd Thursday of the month) that features an eclectic mix of comedians from the Bay Area and beyond. The show has been taking place for the past 6 years at El Rio in the Mission District, where SF comedian/Kung Pao Kosher Comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig began doing stand up in 1989. She began the show on her 20th anniversary of performing.
This month features: Will Durst, Eloisa Bravo, Nick Leonard, Nina G, and guest host, Dan St Paul.
Will Durst has been called by The New York Times, "quite possibly the best political comedian working in the country today." Will writes a nationally syndicated humor column and is a frequent contributor on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and Current TV. Although receiving five Emmy nominations and seven consecutive nominations for the American Comedy Awards Stand Up of the Year, he's never won anything. Not even a toaster. His first book, "The All American Sport of Bipartisan Bashing" was taken from his hit Off-Broadway one-man show of the same name and another book was made out of his 2012 one-man show "Elect to Laugh" which ran for 41 weeks in San Francisco. Currently he is performing his tribute to Baby Boomers "BoomeRaging: From LSD to OMG." He brought the show to The Edinburgh Fringe Fest for the month of August. His 800+ television appearances include: HBO, The Today Show, Letterman, Inside Politics, GMA, Showtime, Comedy Central and the CBS Morning News. Will has been fired by the San Francisco Examiner twice and by PBS three times and once ran for Mayor of San Francisco, spending $1200, pulling 2% of the vote: meaning on a dollar per vote basis, he is Mayor of San Francisco. www.WillDurst.com
Dan St. Paul grew up in San Francisco's Mission District and moved to LA where he appeared on several episodes of An Evening at the Improv, numerous shows on VH-1, MTV, and Comedy Central. He has opened for Jerry Seinfeld, Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson, and others. He appeared in the movie "Flubber" with Robin Williams and signed a recording deal with MCA records. His CD, "Natural and Good for You" contains one the most requested comedy pieces on radio, "The First Baseball Game." He also is the star of his own one-man play, "Outer Mission, Middle Class - The Comic Diary of an Immigrant's Son." Corporate clients include Hewlett Packard, IBM, Intel, Nations Bank, Philips Magnavox, Chevron, and Blue Cross. Dan is armed with a Bachelors Degree in Italian from UC Berkeley, a teaching credential from SF State, and a Masters Degree in special education, and the majority of Dan's material comes from being a suburban husband and father and dealing with the frustrations of everyday life. He lives in Foster City with his wife and son. www.danstpaul.com
Eloisa Bravo started her comedy career soon after she discovered she couldn't have children and a subsequent divorce. She holds nothing back and derives her material from real life, exploding with energy on stage. You'll notice her immediately for her Venezuelan accent and highly expressive performance; yet it's the nature and intensity of her material that will stick with you, with its unique perspective on the issues affecting urban, single women. Packed with energy and cuteness she will make you laugh, assuming you are lucky enough to understand her accent. She has performed at the San Francisco Punchline, the Purple Onion, Rooster T. Feathers, as well as the Palm Beach, Miami, and Hollywood Improvs. She has won several comedy competitions in the Bay Area and produces comedy and variety shows including Trainwreck Cabaret and Cheaper Than Therapy. www.eloisabravo.com
Nick Leonard performs his dry and sly humor at clubs around California and all over the world including Marsh Theater, NYU, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The San Francisco Fringe Festival, and the Vancouver International Comedy Festival. He is the co-founder of the Qcomedy Showcase (currently on hiatus) and the popular Bilarious Show in the National Queer Arts Festival.
Nina G is America's favorite female stuttering stand up comedian (granted she is the only one). She is also a disability activist, storyteller, children's book author, and educator. She brings her humor to help people confront and understand social justice issues such as disability, diversity, and equity. When she isn't performing at comedy clubs like the Punchline or the Laugh Factory, she is playing colleges and presenting as a keynote speaker to children with disabilities and training professionals. Nina is part of the comedy troupe, The Comedians with Disabilities Act, which brings laughter and awareness to audiences across the country. She is the author of a children's book, Once Upon An Accommodation: A Book About Learning Disabilities, that helps children and adults advocate for their rights as a person with a disability. Nina's one-person show, Going Beyond Inspirational, a comical exploration about growing up with Learning and Speech Disabilities debuted in 2015 and was featured CBS San Francisco Local. Also new for 2015 is the first ever comedy compilation of all comedians with disabilities, featuring the Comedians with Disabilities Act. www.ninagcomedian.com
