Bill Evans Presents The Banjo in America
Occidental Center for the Arts is proud to host internationally known five-string banjo performer, teacher, writer, scholar and composer Bill Evans as he presents The Banjo in America. Over an illustrious thirty-five year career the author of the most popular banjo book in the world -Banjo for Dummies has performed with everyone from David Grisman to Maria Muldaur. A virtuosic and award-winning banjo player and composer, Bill Evans has made popular #1 recordings (In Good Company) that explore bluegrass from the traditional to the innovative with jazz, classical, folk and world music influences. www.billevansbanjo.com
As a scholar with a Master's Degree in (American) music history, Evans has brought his deep knowledge, intense virtuosity and contagious passion for all things banjo to The Banjo in America. Tracing the instrument from its West African roots to the New World, Evans performs musical examples from the 1700's to present day on a rich variety of vintage instruments. His masterful performance illuminates as well as entertains.
