Apron Theater Company's BROTH
BROTH is a comedic drama about a bevy of colorful characters whose lives intersect in a New England seaside boarding house. The year is 1969. Nell Bannister runs the home where Winston studies to become a priest, Bridget cleans the rooms while secretly moonlighting as a go-go dancer, Mr. Waters cooks broth and serves advice, and Nell's teenage niece, Justine, tries to grow up without her mother. To raise money, Nell hosts the "Quit Smokers," a weekly support group comprised of souls from many walks of life, including: Laura, an aspiring author; Ned, a factory foreman; an itinerant hitchhiker named Moon; and Rupert, a Woolworths window decorator. When the bank sends a notice of foreclosure they all band together in an uproariously misguided plan to save the home. Packed with entertaining dialogue, richly drawn characters, engaging plot twists and historical integrity, Broth is an uplifting play which explores the unexpected ways in which we form identity and make meaningful connections in our lives.
